Musician and entrepreneur Aliaune Damala Thiam Badara, popularly known as Akon on Easter Sunday tracked the endangered mountain gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable National park; home to over half the population of the last surviving gorillas in the world.
Akon, together with his wife Rozina Negusei first visited Queen Elizabeth national park and later on transferred to the ancient jungle of Bwindi for the thrilling gorilla trekking experience. Dressed in Uganda Cranes jersey , Akon and Rozina hiked the hills on a muddy day. Regardless, they were amazed because of how close they got to the giant gorillas.
“The baby gorilla was so cute, I wish I could have it. She was like the cutest thing I have ever seen” Rozina said. And Akon happily referred to himself as “The papa of Gorillas”. “This experience was amazing. With all that is going on around the world with the pandemic, getting a chance to get into nature, air it all out and escape from the madness just to see our cousins is an experience like no other,” Akon added.
This is good news for Uganda tourism and gorilla conservation efforts as this raise more awareness to the world about the incredible mountain gorillas, Akon fans, as well as fellow Americans, will surely love to come and see these endangered apes to follow in the footsteps in the legendary RNB and Pop music star.
