The Uganda government put in place some traffic rules with an aim of creating a safe and comfortable raod environment and ost of the rules have to be carefully adhered to or you face the consequences of your offence either with money or jail. 1. Using an unlicensed or uninsured car

Fine (Ugx): Min – 200,000

Max – 800,000

Imprisonment: Min – 1 year

2. Excess passengers or over loading and poor condition

Fine (Ugx): Min – 300,000

Max – 1,200,000

Imprisonment: Min – 6 months

Max – 2 years

3. Causing injury or death as a result of careless driving

Fine (Ugx): Min – 1,500,000

Max – 4,000,000

Imprisonment: Min -2 years

Max – 5 years

4. Dangerous or careless driving

Fine (Ugx): Min – 1,200,000

Max – 1,800,000

Imprisonment: Min – 2 years

Max – 3 years

5. Drinking and driving

Fine (Ugx): Min – 300,000

Max – 1,200,000

Imprisonment: Min – 6 months

Max – 2 years

6. Careless or inconsiderate use of a car

Fine (Ugx): Min – 100,000

Max – 600,000

Imprisonment: Min – 1 month

Max – 1 year

7. Exceeding the speed limit or over speeding

Fine (Ugx): Min – 300,000

Max – 1,200,000

Imprisonment: Min – 6 months

Max – 2 years

8. Driving without a permit or after being disqualified

Fine (Ugx): Min – 600,000

Max – 3,000,000

Imprisonment: Min – 1 year

Max – 5 years

9. Failing to report an accident

Fine (Ugx): Min – 100,000

Max – 600,000
