5 Things To Avoid When Driving An Automatic Transmission Car

Automatic transmission is also known as “self-drifting transmission” which motor vehicle transmission can automatically change gear ratios as the car moves that is to say without the effort of the driver hence letting him or her to fully concentrate on the road. Automatic transmission Vehicles are very common in Uganda and are mostly used by travelers on self-drive safaris in Uganda simply because they are more reliable, less tiring and the car is much easier to control.

Automatic transmission cars however call for a lot of attention while on the road so as to avoid accidents while on the road. Below are some of the things you should avoid doing while driving an automatic transmission car.

1. Never drift your vehicle in neutral mode
Automatic vehicles have the ability to reduce fuel consumption while driving downhill all alone, so the idea of changing your vehicle in neutral while driving downhill would not help save fuel. For this situation, it’s difficult to accelerate the vehicle in neutral mode. When they cut down fuel utilization while coating downhill, this makes them be fuel efficient like the manual transmission vehicles.

2. Avoid using the neutral (N), reverse (R), driving (D) and parking (P) modes while the car is moving
It is constantly prudent to switch these modes when the vehicle is not moving. Automatic transmissions work in a way such that the switch between the gears includes the use of clutches and bands already joined in the transmission system. Consistent utilization of the N, D and R modes decimates the friction materials of the clutches in the transmission system that would help in halting the vehicle. This will bring about a lot of damage fast, in this way requiring replacement faster.

3. Try not to switch your vehicle to Parking (P) when it is moving
Speed sensors – an internal mechanism helps in halting the driver change the vehicle to parking mode when the vehicle is in motion. These sensors are just present in modern automatic vehicles and they are not in the older vehicles. Utilizing the parking mode to stop the vehicle causes serious damage on the car. This is on the grounds that it uses a locking pin for the parking lever and subsequently the normal working of the parking mode is damaged.

4. Never put your car in neutral mode at stop light
At the point when your vehicle is in stop or stationary, make sure that you place it in drive mode at the stop signals. This helps avoiding focusing on the vehicle’s transmission. In addition, placing it into neutral mode just save an unimportant amount of fuel, and subsequently no compelling reason to change to neutral mode.

5. Avoid Launching Your Vehicle
It’s also advisable to not rev your vehicle’s engine in neutral and dropping it into drive to dispatch yourself forward. This hurries the wearing out of the clutches and bands in the transmission system and it is costly to replace.
